Juneau Back Surgery Patients Must Exercise

March 21, 2017

10,080 minutes are in a week.  What do you do with all those minutes? Sleep, eat, talk, work, listen, shop, drive…exercise? Exercise doesn’t usually appear in at number one on most people’s lists of favorite things to do with their time.  It’s recommended that we all exercise at least 150 minutes a week. (6) That’s just

  • 2 and a half hours a week.
  • 5 sessions of 30 minutes a week.
  • 10 sessions of 15 minutes a week.

That doesn’t seem like much, but we need to schedule it into our busy lives, do we not? Even your Juneau chiropractor needs to do that! Time goes by so fast for all of us, including time for your Juneau chiropractic physician at Aurora Chiropractic Center. Your Juneau chiropractic physician at Aurora Chiropractic Center encourages Juneau chiropractic patients to continue doing their exercise routines even when their Juneau back pain is not so bad.

Benefits of Exercise

Exercise makes people happier, less depressed and sleep better. (1,2) Juneau chiropractic patients do, too! Hearts and minds are healthier when their owners exercise. (3,4) Aurora Chiropractic Center challenges you to get out and try a walk! See how much clearer you think and healthier you feel with your heart pumping. Exercise slows memory loss. (4) Exercise decreases depressive symptoms. (2) Blood pressure drops. (5) Life span may even increase due to heart workouts with aerobic exercise. (3)  What do you think of all these possibilities? Aurora Chiropractic Center encourages you to see the positives!

Exercise is life-giving. Exercise is life-supporting. Exercise is all that for normal spine folks but even more significant for Juneau back pain sufferers particularly for Juneau post-back surgery patients who still experience back pain. Post-surgical patients who exercise 150 minutes a week show a significant decrease in pain and reoperation rate reports a new study of post-surgery back pain patients. In this study the mean age was 57 years of age. 80% of them had degenerative diagnoses. 63% had gone through a multilevel back surgery. Only 35% of them met the greater than 1400 kcal a week exercise expenditure and left them open to a second surgery (named a revision surgery). Only 26% of post back surgery patients met the more than 150 minutes a week of exercise opening them to the risk of degenerative diagnoses, subsequent spine surgery, and more postoperative back pain. (6) 150 minutes a week doesn’t sound like much anymore, does it? Aurora Chiropractic Center knows our Juneau chiropractic patients can arrange 2.5 hours a week for their back’s sake. It's part of the whole Juneau treatment plan of chiropractic care
