Shoulder pain is a condition experienced by many car crash patients, and there are two basic causes.

The first is direct damage to the shoulder during the wreck. If your shoulder hits something directly, it can injure the joint capsule. Also, if you are gripping the steering wheel tightly during a rear-end crash, your torso can lag behind the car, putting tension on your wrists and shoulders.

The second cause of shoulder pain is not so straightforward and can be tougher to identify. Injury to the neck or spine can produce pressure on the nerves that travel from the spine to your shoulder, arm, and hands. This can be puzzling, as the discomfort or numbness is sensed in one part of your body, while the problem is actually in your spine.

Chiropractic adjustments are a well-known, effective way to help people with shoulder pain, and we've been helping these types of injuries in Juneau, AK since 1983.

Shoulder pain can also be a sign of a rotator cuff injury. Surrounding your shoulder joint are muscles and tendons, collectively called the rotator cuff. A sudden jolt or fall can stretch or strain the tendons in the rotator cuff, causing pain, stiffness, and muscles weakness. This can usually be resolved with conservative measures like gentle stretching and exercise therapy guided by your chiropractor.
